Billie Joe Armstrong halts Green Day set to shout at fan

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong halted a performance at Germany’s Hurricane Festival to scold a fan at the barrier.

On 22nd June, Armstrong paused during ‘Jesus Of Suburbia’ to yell at a fan who had been shooting the musician with a water gun throughout the performance.

Footage uploaded by a fan page seemingly shows Armstrong yelling, “I’ll beat your ass!” and “Do you understand me?”. However, this cannot be verified because Armstrong took his guitar off and moved away from the mic to address the culprit.

Green Day played another explosive set this year, this time at Coachella. When performing the 2004 tune ‘Jesus of Suburbia’, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong sang the words “Runnin’ away from pain, like the kids from Palestine/ Tales from another broken home,” instead of the usual lyrics of “Runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimised.”

They followed that performance up at the UK’s hardcore celebration, Download Festival, where they turned their attention to the Trump administration. Addressing the crowd, they shouted, “We are slipping into fascism. Donald Trump and his administration are a fascist government. It is up to us to fight back.”

In May, Green Day were honoured with an official Hollywood Walk of Fame star. US TV presenter, DJ, and music exec Matt Pinfield explained that they deserve the accolade: “That is what punk rock, rock and roll music is all about. That beauty, that love, a passing on of that gift. And that’s the thing that’s so special about Green Day.”

The Green Day frontman shared a new cover only recently that depicted him in a much calmer mood than seen at the Hurricane set. Armstrong released an old cover of The Beach Boys’ classic “I Get Around” to honour the late Brian Wilson, who passed on June 11th.
