Green Day call out Epstein and ICE at Super Bowl pre-party

by Nicolas

Green Day has used their latest live performance to brandish anti-ICE sentiment and to call out Jeffrey Epstein, ahead of the Super Bowl on February 8th.

The pop-punk trio headlined the FanDuel Party Powered by Spotify in San Francisco on February 6th, ahead of their performance slated for the Super Bowl’s opening ceremony.

During the show, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong had a message for all of the ICE agents who might have been in attendance, ahead of the big night in Santa Clara. The vocalist began, “Quit your shitty ass job.”

He continued, “Quit that shitty job you have. Because when this is over, and it will be over at some point of time, Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Donald Trump — they’re gonna drop you like a bad fucking habit. Come on to this side of the line.”

Later in their set, Armstrong was sure to dedicate the band’s performance of ‘Holiday’ “to Minneapolis”, in honour of the late Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were killed by ICE agents in the past month on the streets of Minnesota.

Armstrong then changed a lyric in ‘Holiday’ from “the representative from California has the floor” to “the representative from Epstein Island has the floor.”

This isn’t the first time Green Day has clearly expressed an anti-ICE stance; Armstrong showed his support for protestors fighting back against ICE in Minnesota when the punk band performed at the Kia Forum in California on January 17th.

Notably, Bad Bunny, another critic of ICE and the Trump administration, will perform the halftime show at the Super Bowl.

Recently, Trump has revealed that he will not be in attendance at the event; in a new interview, Trump condemned both musical guests, sharing stoically, “I’m anti-them”.

He went on, “I think it’s a terrible choice,” before adding of the musical heavyweights, “All it does is sow hatred. Terrible.” It remains to be confirmed what political commentary the band might share at the Super Bowl.
