Weezer bassist’s wife files for divorce amid shooting arrest

Jillian Lauren has filed for divorce from Weezer bassist Scott Shriner.

The couple have been married for 20 years, but according to People, Lauren has now filed for divorce and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the end of their marriage.

They share two children together with Lauren seeking joint legal and physical custody of their teenagers, along with spousal support, as well as asking for their ability to award Shriner with spousal support to be terminated.

Additionally, Lauren, whose legal name is Jillian Lauren-Shriner and a best-selling author, asked for her surname to be reverted back to Lauren.

In September, Lauren was found eligible to enter a two-year mental health diversion programme after she reportedly opened fire at the Los Angeles Police Department in April.

Lauren was first arrested in April after allegedly firing in the direction of officers. It came after the police scoured her area for an unrelated hit-and-run suspect.

According to audio released by the LAPD, Lauren appeared to believe that she was shooting at the hit-and-run suspects, unaware that they were police officers.

In response to the recent ruling, Lauren’s lawyer, Hilary Lee Potashner, told Rolling Stone, “We think this was the right resolution,” adding that everybody in her team was “very pleased” with the new outcome.

As part of the conditions, Lauren was ordered to follow several conditions, such as abstaining from drugs and alcohol, attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and not having any guns or knives. If she followed these rules, the charges would be dismissed after two years.

Shriner has remained quiet about the incident. In April, in the lead up to Weezer’s Coachella set, he released a brief statement to confirm he would still take to the stage and to thank the public for their support before simply adding, “She’s alright”, regarding his wife’s well-being, as she was injured in the arm during the altercation.
