New footage released by the LAPD shows Jillian Lauren, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, in a gruelling stand-off with police. Lauren is also seen holding and firing a gun in footage released from her own home surveillance.
This finding comes just over two weeks after Shriner was shot by police in Los Angeles and booked for attempted murder.
The collage of several bodycam video recordings shows a mass of confusion and chaos. Multiple officers can be heard yelling repeatedly at the woman LAPD identified as Lauren. With police officers stood behind a fence, the footage of Lauren is obstructed.
Police tell Lauren to drop the gun approximately a dozen times amid the stand-off. Lauren reportedly took aim at the officers after refusing to heed this warning. As heard in the footage, as soon as an officer noted, “Oh, she racked it”, the police opened fire. They unloaded over six shots, one of which found its way into Lauren’s arm.
More video footage comes from Lauren’s home surveillance system. This clip shows her exiting her house holding a handgun and searching around the perimeter of her property. Lauren was likely perturbed by the police presence, who were scouring the area for an unrelated hit-and-run suspect.
Though the video has no sound and is recorded from a distance, it does show Lauren manipulating and firing the gun. After this, Lauren walks away calmly.
Approximately an hour after the shooting, Lauren then emerged from her home with another woman, later identified as a babysitter. Both women were then taken into custody before Lauren was taken to the hospital for treatment after they concluded she was not involved in the hit-and-run. She was released on bail and has a court date set for April 30th.
Amidst this controversy, Weezer still played a Coachella set on April 12th, but the band did not acknowledge the situation. He only released a brief statement to confirm he would still take to the stage and to thank the public for their support before simply adding, “She’s alright”, regarding his wife’s well-being.
Lauren is an author who has written two memoirs: 2010’s Some Girls: My Life in a Harem and 2015’s Everything You Ever Wanted. She has been married to Weezer’s Scott Shriner since 2005 and shares two children with him.
