Vans marches its Old Skool 36 “Souvenir” series along with another sprinkle of charms. The Vans Old Skool 36 Souvenir “Asphalt” will release June 25th at selected retailers for $125 USD.
The “Asphalt” colorway leans into the same whimsical recipe that made its predecessors so popular. Light washed coral canvas serves as the base for a worn-looking base, while dark steely blue leather overlays adorn the eyestays, toe, heel, and trim along the side panels. The contrasting colors feel lived-in rather than curated.
From there, textured bouclé accents weave across the sides, tongue edge, and collar. This dusty combination of pink, blue, black, and white threads help give the Old Skool 36 a more DIY spirit. Like it was souvenir inspired rather than thrown together in a design studio.
Of course, charms still do the majority of the talking. Pins and small embellishments are peppered along the side panels for added flair, but no departures from Old Skool’s classic shape. Grey laces, metal eyelets, a black waffle outsole, and muted midsole round out the aged appearance.
The “Asphalt” edition builds upon the foundation set by prior Souvenir releases like the Burgundy, Oatmeal, and Blue collections. Lighter in tone due to its faded canvas backdrop, this version is softened up but still grounded by its dark leather details.
