Neighborhood x OTW by Vans Authentic 44: Release Date

As Vans looks to make the most of its sneaker enthusiast fandom and turn it into measurable results, the VF Corporation owned-and-operated outfit is linking up with one of its oldest partners for two new spins on the Authentic 44 silhouette.

The Neighborhood x OTW by Vans Authentic 44 will be offered in both solid black and natural colorways when the collaboration is released later this week. 

Both pairs are constructed with premium suede and feature fully tonal color blocking with Neighborhood-branded details throughout, including across the midsole’s foxing tape and at the toe box. The former reads “craft with pride Tokyo est. 1994,” while the latter is stamped with text reading “Neighborhood Tokyo est. 1994 technical apparel craft with pride.” Further elevating the Authentic 44 is a leather heel strip and leather binding.

According to Vans, the latest Neighborhood collab merges “modern style and craftsmanship with premium quality” and is “raw, refined and built with intent.”

The partnership between Japanese streetwear purveyor Neighborhood and Vans stands as one of the longest-running for either brand. The link-up began nearly two decades ago on a three-way collaboration with Supreme on the Sk8-Hi and Chukka models. Neighborhood has since redesigned numerous iconic Vans shoes including the Authentic, Era, Half Cab, Sk8-Mid  and Slip-On. Now, the legacy streetwear label returns to the Authentic for a new, more reserved spin on the skate sneaker.

Much has been made about Vans’ struggles despite its recent success with sneakerheads. After years of falling out of favor with sneaker enthusiasts, the brand has bounced back over the last year and change, thanks in large part to its designer-inspired styles and studded sneaker releases.

However, the surge in sneaker hype has yet to translate to the brand’s earnings. According to Vans president and chief executive officer Bracken Darrell, the company has prioritized turning around its direct-to-consumer numbers and will shift its attention to improving wholesale next. 

The Neighborhood x OTW by Vans Authentic 44 pack will be released Friday for $120 each from vans.com and select OTW by Vans retailers.
